|
|
I am new to the forum and haven't seen a place to make proposals for integration of software into the portage-tree.
A software that I would like to propose would be the MDM DISPLAY MANAGER on portage
https://github.com/linuxmint/mdm
I have signed up on bugs.gentoo.org to make a request but somehow it is not possible to do that
when I look under profile--> Permissions
Code: | Permissions
You have the following permission bits set on your account:
saved-searches share group for saved-searches |
Thanks |

As you have apparently noticed, requesting new packages, or new versions of existing packages, is done by filing a bug report, there is no special permission required to file such requests. However offering to proxy maintain the package tends to accelerate its inclusion in the tree, at least if the ebuild(s) offered meet the general quality standards for the tree. |

Hi
the offered version is quite old and some of the new function feature and fixes are not supported like
-Multi-monitor support
- 24h clock support
etc... |

Just attach a newer ebuild to the bug then. If you want to see about getting it into the tree, you should login to IRC:chat.freenode.net and /join #gentoo-sunrise. You'd also like #gentoo-dev-help I imagine. It would be worth chatting to the people in #gentoo-desktop as well, if you're trying to get a DM in (and that's where you'll find someone to proxy-maintain, once they know you.)
For somewhere to relax, I recommend #gentoo-chat.
See this post to get an ebuild stabilised but that's once it's in-tree as unstable, and no bugs for at least 30 days.
HTH, and good luck :)

The 30days is only a rough guideline. In the end, it's totally up to the maintainer. If you feel something is stable after using it for some time, just go ahead and file a stabilization request.
But you should give some information on your use case, usage pattern etc. A plain "please stabilize" from some user doesn't help me and gets usually ignored. |

Hi
unfortunately I have not many information to mdm (on Gentoo)
but what I can say is Im using cinnamon 2.2.13 for a few weekks until now and i found somme issues like this and thiswhich will hopefully fixes soon.
additionally I wanted to test MDM as a display manager, the only vesion I found was 1.4.9, and I was hoping to get the latest version (optimally in portage) at least as ebuild.
and as I have previously written the last versions introduce some other important changes as you can readhere.
let me know if more info are needed
thanks |
