;)

USE="semantic-desktop nepomuk kdepim" do not influence the dependency of kdelibs on strigi in any way.

Code:
$ equery d strigi
 * These packages depend on strigi:
kde-base/kdelibs-4.13.1 (>=app-misc/strigi-0.7.7)
kde-base/kdesdk-strigi-analyzer-4.13.1 (app-misc/strigi)
kde-base/systemsettings-4.11.9-r1 (app-misc/strigi)

:? This openSUSE user claims it is possible to remove Strigi:

The migrator will then run and move all the data that can be migrated to the new system. It will also turn off Nepomuk at the end of the migration.

At this moment it would be safe to remove the nepomuk related packages like nepomuk-core, libnepomukwidgets, soprano*, strigi, virtuoso and shared-desktop-ontologies. There are only a few packages left that are still requiring the nepomuk-framework (like bangarang, kweshtunotes, etc).

well,

Code:
$ ebuild /usr/portage/kde-base/kdelibs/kdelibs-4.13.1.ebuild configure
...
- The following REQUIRED packages have been found
...
* Strigi (required version >= 0.6.3)
...

But maybe someone wants to try that opensuse patch? ;)

kdelibs: https://build-test.opensuse.org/package/view_file/home:coolo:test/kdelibs4/make-strigi-optional.patch?expand=1
systemsettings: https://build-test.opensuse.org/package/view_file/home:coolo:test/kdebase4-workspace/remove_strigi.patch?expand=1

Seems to work, but again at the cost of losing file metadata.

I have -semantic-desktop in my make.conf. Adding -kdepim and -nepomuk doesn't seem to make any further difference for me.

Having unmerged neopmuk the next world update wants to bring it back.

Well, fix your system. ;) I have already posted a relevant command for the investigation.

Yeah I know, but what's the point of the useflags??

Code:
hayden@raumati /var $ sudo emerge --ask kmail
Password:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N     ] dev-libs/grantlee-0.3.0  USE="-debug -doc {-test}"
[ebuild  N     ] kde-base/kdepim-icons-4.12.5  USE="(-aqua)"
[ebuild  N     ] kde-base/kdepim-runtime-4.12.5  USE="(-aqua) -debug -facebook -google -kolab"
[ebuild  N     ] kde-base/kdepim-common-libs-4.12.5  USE="(-aqua) -debug"
[ebuild  N     ] kde-base/kontact-4.12.5  USE="handbook (-aqua) -debug"
[ebuild  N     ] kde-base/korganizer-4.12.5  USE="handbook kontact (-aqua) -debug"
[ebuild  N     ] kde-base/kmail-4.12.5  USE="handbook kontact (-aqua) -debug {-test}"

Would you like to merge these packages? [Yes/No]

kdepim set for installation too

Of course emerging kmail will pull in kdepim, what do you expect - look at your output, do you see any of the flags? Also, you are on the wrong version (4.12.5) to join the discussion here, nepomuk and kdepim flags don't exist there.

I thought this was about (getting rid of) nepomuk? Then next thing you come up with is kmail, a kdepim application, whose kdepim dependency you expect to get rid of? ;)

That was precisely my point, ie. the useflag wasn't holding back the install. Didn't realise I was on the wrong version though, so my sincere apologies :lol:
