hi,
this is a problem on a fedora 20 machine with an old intel 8xxxx card. i write this here because i am now mainly for kernel param settings which is an international topic.
i can see grub during boot, but when kernel comes up at some point i get out of sync/no signal message from the some old hansol monitor. after X comes up i get video signal again. but when i switch to ctrl+alt+f1 the signal gets lost again and i want to use that to get root. when this pc was connected to my old eizo i did not get this problem. the connection is a vga cable.
now for the kernel parameters:
i tried:
1. nomodeset
2. acpi=off
and the terminal problem disapeared. but when playing videos in vlc or mplayer the player did freeze. this pc is meant mainly to play videos and music so i have a problem with that.
i tried also these without an effect:
1. i915.mode=0
2. i915.mode=1
3. pci=bios
4. pci=nobios
5. acpi_osi=Linux
6. acpi_osi=Windows
i also tried these to set the resolution but only 1. vga worked
1. vga=792
2. set gfxmode=1024x768
3. set vbemode=0x105
now the question is is there a way to get the tty terminal on this machine while the video players work? _________________

e3k ... whatever the topic its Fedora and so should be posted to "Unsupported Software". You should request a moderator to move it.
