I emerged Cinnamon in addition to Gnome/Systemd machine -
When I login Cinnamon's DE, it is showed up without mouse pointer.
I saw similar complains in google but do not know how to work it out? _________________ “You can take our property, our sweet homes, even our cloths...

Which version of Cinnamon?
[edit]
Also what video driver? There seems to be a correlation between certain drivers. |

There are a few possibilities and things to try before concluding that it's related to this bug
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=969649
For one, are you using evdev as outlined on this wiki article?
http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Evdev
If so, have you noticed this behavior on any other DE's?
Also do you have gnome 3.10 installed as well? Afaik there are some issues with gnome 3.10 being installed alongside Cinnamon 1.8.
If you have evdev installed and only have the current version of Gnome you'll probably be running into this issue
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7521384.html
My honest advice if you want to keep Cinnamon and Gnome 3.10 is to try out Cinnamon 2.2 out of portage (e.g. making cinnamon available by putting the packages with the ~amd64 flag in your packages.accept_keywords). Otherwise you'll have to mask gnome 3.10 and use an earlier version of gnome that will play well with Cinnamon 1.8.
[edit]
As listed in this old bug for version bump
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487678
One person's solution to keep Cinnamon 1.8 working until 2.2 came along was to mask newer version of gnome by adding the following to their package.mask
Code: | >=dev-libs/gjs-1.38.1
>=gnome-base/gnome-control-center-3.10.2
>=gnome-base/gnome-desktop-3.10.2
>=gnome-base/gnome-session-3.10.1
>=gnome-base/gnome-settings-daemon-3.10.2
>=gnome-base/gsettings-desktop-schemas-3.10.1
>=media-libs/clutter-1.16.2
>=media-libs/cogl-1.16.0 |
I wouldn't call this ideal, however. Probably less work to add the ~amd64 cinnamon packages. It's up to you, however. |

Dear Shadywack,
As you say: Quote: | Afaik there are some issues with gnome 3.10 being installed alongside Cinnamon 1.8. | -
I am not sure that it is a good idea for me to go a head with Gnome & Cinnamon - Concerning not much Gentoo's experience I have at the moment.
Also, my nVidia graphic card suddenly broke down - it introduces his psychedelic talent
The problem is that Gnome/Systemd do not working with my on-board Intel GPU.
So at the moment, I decided to give up of Systemd and go back to KDE/openRC and then will see if I can add Cinnamon, as well.
I had faced with some problems during working with Systemd - Maybe it is due to my experience shortage or to Systemd immature.
Regarding your remarks:
Quote: | If so, have you noticed this behavior on any other DE's? |
Yes, I am using evdev and there are no mouse problems with other DE.
I installed Gnome 3.10.
Thanks for the important info - I will use it later on _________________ “You can take our property, our sweet homes, even our cloths...

You are very welcome. Sorry to hear about your graphics card having issues though! If you happen across another nVidia card it probably doesn't hurt to give the closed source drivers from nVidia a shot.
As for systemd, it takes a little getting use to and learning a new init system but I'm beginning to really appreciate the strengths of it. I appreciate the parallel loading it can do and it also helps make my UEFI booting shine a little more.
I also wanted to mention that Cinnamon 1.8 and Gnome 3.10 are basically incompatible with each other, and Cinnamon 1.8 requires Gnome to be installed, just an older version of Gnome than 3.10. Once Cinnamon 2.2 gets stabilized it'll be a much more viable way to go as it doesn't require Gnome to be installed but it's also compatible with 3.1x (since it looks like the devs are working to stabilize 3.12 already). |
