Hello,

I'm having a display issue when I use the nouveau driver and fluxbox as a WM (I tried with xfce4, no problem at all).

The border toolbar aren't displayed, and it's sometimes the same for the windows' border (for the windows, I just have to move it around the screen to solve this, but it's annoying). Also, I use tabbed windows, and only the title of the active windows is displayed.
I only have the problem when using nouveau, I didn't have this sort of problems while using nvidia-drivers.

I'm using up to date versions of fluxbox and nouveau, I don't know if I can test anything else, if someone has an idea... I would like not to use nvidia-drivers, it's just a pain in the ass to keep it and the kernel up-to-date at the same time.

Thanks in advance,

barul,

Please put your /var/log/Xorg.0.log, while fluxbox is in use, onto a pastebin site.

barul,

Code:
[   195.086] (II) NOUVEAU(0): Output LVDS-1 using initial mode 1920x1080
shows it started OK.
It was later
Code:
[   197.243] resize called 1920 1080
thats still OK.

It looks like Xorg started at the right 1920x1080 then something changed it later.
That would be the window manager.

Unrelated to your issue is
Code:
[   197.096] (EE) NOUVEAU(0): Error initialising acceleration.  Falling back to NoAccel

So you don't have any hardware acceleration.
Check your
Code:
eselect orengl
and
Code:
eselect mesa

That's weird, 'glx info |grep rendering' shows a Yes to me.

Anyway here are the pastebins:
eselect opengl list (I assumed you meant opengl, not orengl):
Code:
nuked ~ $ eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
  [1]   xorg-x11 *

eselect mesa list:
Code:
nuked ~ $ eselect mesa list
64bit i915 (Intel 915, 945)
64bit i965 (Intel GMA 965, G/Q3x, G/Q4x, HD)
64bit r300 (Radeon R300-R500)
64bit r600 (Radeon R600-R700, Evergreen, Northern Islands)
64bit sw (Software renderer)
  [1]   gallium *
32bit i915 (Intel 915, 945)
  [1]   classic
  [2]   gallium *

Direct rendering could be the problem, I lknow fluxbox has some code related to composite (just a wild guess, I couldn't say more about it)

barul,

Check that your normal user is in the video group.
If not, you may have direct renderering but not the permissions to use it, in which case Xorg reverts to software rendering.

Back to the original problem. Lets test for over scanning or the display being a viewport onto a larger virtual desktop.
Center the mouse pointer on the desktop.
Slowly move the pointer to one edge of the screen. Observe if the missing window elements appear or not.
Repeat for all screen edges.

If the missing window elements appear, Xorg is operating a viewport onto a larger virtual desktop, if not you have overscan.
That will help knowing where to look next.

Sorry for the late response.

My user is in the video group, but no GL avaiable. I will search into that issue, it's kind of annoying.

For the original issue, I tried to move my mouse from the center of my screen to the 4 edges, but the missing elements did not appear.

What is overscan?

Thanks a lot
