|
|
I am in the process of trying to install Gentoo on my G4. I've reached the point where I'm compiling my kernel. However, once I've done that, I need to copy vmlinux to /boot. My only problem is I can't seem to find vmlinux. Please correct me if I wrong, but the image is supposed to be in /usr/src/linux right? I've recompiled numerous times to try to find out where vmlinux is being created, if it's being created at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx.

yes vmlinux should be in the same dir you do make vmlinux from. If it is not there you may be getting errors in the make process. What is last line the make vmlinux outputs for you? |

The last line I get is
make: *** [_dir_arch/ppc/kernel] Error 2 |

Yep that's what i thought, these are compile errors, double check what you have selected as options in make menuconfig and try compiling again. When it is successful you will have a vmlinux |

The rule of thumb when making kernels is this.. DON'T add or take away any options unless you know exactly what they do (aside from things listed in ppc install guide).
By default make menuconfig puts in a mostly functional set of options when it is first run. |
