Hi there,

I still have an old ps2 mouse lying around. Unfortunately on my netbook there's no ps2 connector anymore. So I bought an PS2USB adapter. And of course it isn't working.

I should have read the negative comments before. The problem is obviously, that the adapter isn't a converter. That means, the device has to be USB-capable itself. When I plug my ps2 mouse to the netbook I get the following errors:
Code:
Apr 22 16:58:38 miniding kernel: usb 3-2: new full-speed USB device number 26 using ohci-pci
Apr 22 16:58:39 miniding kernel: usb 3-2: device not accepting address 26, error -62

Apr 22 16:58:40 miniding kernel: hub 3-0:1.0: unable to enumerate USB device on port 2

The mouse isn't listed in lsusb too.

Is there any chance to get that thing working?

Not sure if you got that resolved, I haven't seen many PS2 mice that understand USB if the cable end isn't already USB without adapters. But I've had problems in the past with "OHCI" HID keyboards plugged into UHCI host adapters (which is probably opposite, in your case). They work...poorly. Not sure about mice though.

I think mice in general have operated fine with many ps2->usb adapters I've tried. It's the keyboards that leave much to be desired...

In your case you may need to try a different PS2->USB adapter, seems that it has some incompatibilities... I currently have a "micro innovations" brand ps2 keyboard/mouse to USB from Microcenter (I think, then again it may be moot for you as this is a US store) and it works fine for the mouse. Keyboard, however, is not very good (does not work well for things other than for typing). The PI Engineering USB Y-Mouse I think is a much better product, but still not perfect for the keyboard. Mouse works fine though.

And in your post there was that suggested item at http://www.amazon.de/USB-auf-Adapter-Tastatur-Maus/dp/B000M93O3Y/ref=pd_bxgy_ce_img_y/278-4743103-1173527 which is the item that you *really* need.

I'h almost bought that adapter. But I wanted something small only for the PS2 mouse.

And really, it's not worth to invest more money to get that cheap mouse working. I've bought that thing many years ago for something like 5 €.

My hope was, that maybe exits some kind of kernel module for PS2 over USB. If not, it's no big problem.

And the answer to that is unfortunately "no"... the USB ports aren't capable of signaling the PS/2 protocol.

If the mouse has a ps/2 plug and does not say "usb" on the body somewhere, you definitely need a non-passive adapter.
