Firefox has been locking up lately. I ran it from the terminal and I found this
Code: | (process:3822): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion 'sys_page_size == 0' failed
Error: The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files
Error: The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files
Error: The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files
Error: The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files
Error: The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files
NOTE: child process received `Goodbye', closing down
Error: The name org.freedesktop.UPower was not provided by any .service files

Wait, what is Firefox doing depending on upower? Why is it looking for .service files from systemd?! and how do I stop it?!
This isn't a rant. This is an honest question.emerge output
EDIT:
I disabled dbus and firefox seems to be working, however since there I can't be sure what was causing the lock ups I can't be sure it is fixed. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box.

Introduced with https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/72357a8f0d89 where you'll note this uses DBus; from there on, you'll note that this is a typical DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown error which happens periodically as it might try to read out the power status. To be able to determine if this is indeed causing it to lock; you can monitor whether these messages come when Firefox isn't locking up, if that's the case the problem lies elsewhere (the assertion perhaps?). Reverting that patch or compiling Firefox with USE="-dbus" are another two possible attempts to see if this is the cause. |

I've been getting those messages for the last several firefox packages, never had a lockup because of it.
I think it started several revs back in a glib update.
As Tom says I would disable dbus, if you have it enabled. I've never needed it for FF.
Code: | - - dbus : Enable dbus support for anything that needs it (gpsd, gnomemeeting, etc) |
I also run mine with the libnotify flag unset.
Edit to add: if none of this helps you might try downgrading to the last stable release. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

Hmm, it seems that the dbus error isn't causing the crash. I have a 16 tabs open and I have the dbus error but no crash so far.
It seems this is a rather annoying gremlin. I'll try disabling dbus to see if that works, however since it seems I can't reliably repeat the problem this may take some time. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
