Hi,
So for consolekit I added it to the run level to start at boot. However, if i check its status after logging in it will always stopped and I have to force start it. Even then I will get messages sometimes saying that it is started but crashed and won't be able to kill it or restart it. But for all intents and purposes as far as kde is concerned I got it started and did /etc/init.d/xdm start and kde started. But I am getting errors from my xorg.

Setversion 1.4 failed: permission denied.
A warning about an unresolved symbol.
Warning: nvidia(0): unable to get display device for dpi computation
error failed to initiate mode change.
built in logo is bgger than the screen.

From user if i dot startx all i get is the same black screen i get from starting xdm. Even with twm xterm and xclock emerged.

Here is my /var/log/Xorg.4.log

http://bpaste.net/show/196550/

my /var/log/kdm.log

I'm new to gentoo so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

First of all, while it's unlikely to mater here, do set your timezone in /etc/timezone.

Now, as for the problem: what exactly did you put in your xorg.conf and/or your conf snippets ?
Also, while it *is* possible to run non-suid xorg-server, a bit more setup is necessary then.

Well looking around the forums I saw that xorg.conf weren't really necessary so all mine contains is:

Code:

Section "Device"
               Identifier "Device0"
               Driver "nvidia"
               VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
               BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
               Option "NoLogo" "true"
EndSection

deleted all otherf xorg.conf files in /etc/X11 and deleted /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d.

What extra setup do I need? I thought I followed the guide.

Well, this:
Quote:
(WW) Unresolved symbol: fbGetGCPrivateKey

looks suspicious, but...any chance this is a muxless laptop ?

I do believe it is. I have an intel vga controller. Sorry , this stuff is all new to me. Though when I tried installing bumblebee I still got the black screen. And the bumblebee test used to test for optimus said it wasnt. Though I tried installing the intel drivers, bumblebee, bbswitch, and virtualgl; I am still getting the same errors.

If that's a muxless laptop, intel hardware *must* be properly configured too (check kernel, libdrm, xf86-video-intel and mesa).

They should all be fine. Followed the intel installation guide and added the full package.

So I went in and reinstalled intel drivers following the wiki, have bumblebee and bbswitch, configured my kernel for intel and NVidia proprietary drivers and am now getting this error about not being able to insert i915 uknown symbol in module or unkown parameter.

here is my log file:
