I have Gentoo on a laptop and a netbook. Just everyday desktop usage and tinkering.
My first distro was yellowdog on my now dead ps3, later I tried out Ubuntu on my netbook and it was bloated, unstable and release upgrades never worked for me, I switched to Debian, happily, for a couple of years until I saw a youtube vid about portage and wanted to try it. I feel much more at home with Gentoo. It's elegant and the community is very helpful and welcoming. Which actually came as a bit of a surprise, I wrongly assumed that these forums would be rife with self importance and rtfm's. I was also surprised at it's stability.
Gentoo is the only os I run. I don't think I could give up the level of control which we all enjoy with it. |

Server. I use:
Apache Httpd, Tomcat, znc (IRC bouncer), ZFS, BitTorrent Sync for my computers, CrashPlan for backup for my family, etc.
It's an AMD E-350 with 12GB of RAM and a 120GB root drive. 3x2TB RAID-Z. _________________ My Blog |

Playing with many Linux distributions last decade(s) but I missing own-source-compiling-integration and rolling-release feature.
Linux From Scratch (LFS) was too manually, so I gave Gentoo a try.
Bingo! End of journey was in 2002, now in 2014 all my servers and desktops (and maybe mobile phone) still powered by Gentoo. |

I THINK i've aready responded but not sure and my usage has changed anyway. I use it on my laptop as my every day OS, only Gentoo is installed on this machine so I use it for everything from surfing the internet, playing games, consuming media, and I also develop and maintain android roms on it now as well. |
