Hi everybody, I'm a more or less happy owner of an Acer Aspire laptop. It has a pretty good hardware setup with AMD A8 quad processor, ATI Video Card with 1Gb, 6Gb RAM. Nevertheless I think that Gnome 3 is not performing well. It takes me 48 secs to have the whole think working, responsiveness seems not really good despite the fact I'm using a zen kernel compiled with very few drivers (just those I need to have everything working). Any suggestion on how to tune my machine in order to have it burning as I expect?

Is there a difference in speed using a manually built gentoo-sources kernel?
