Did anyone know what has happened to planet.gentoo.org?!
I appreciate that http://infra-status.gentoo.org/ is mark it down, but it is in that state since 2days.
No redirect, no message on the HP, no news at all
first the mail archive, now the planet... Is gentoo failing down? What is needed to set gentoo back to the standard level of service it deserves? _________________ Proudly member of the Gentoo Documentation Project: the Italian Conspiracy ! |

ive been cycling through wiki pages that will make servers setup a bit more solid. 1 of the subjects i recently went through was process monitoring & notification. i posted fixes to the monit wiki, but other monitoring systems from init on down like daemontools, runit, s6, and others are just wayyyyy too voodoo for me to be doing all by my self.
basically if process crashes, monitoring service restarts the service... if the service cant be restarted email is sent out. so the problem is known about within 15 minutes. the wiki server is setup excellent with nginx and varnish. others, not so much.... problem with monit is monit its self could crash and never be restarted. i made a script to check if up or down && restart but nothing to notify. that would require runit or s6. daemontools is reallllyyyyy old. |

@666threesixes666: The problem is more serious than that is fixed by automatically restarting a crashed process; as for further details, I think I am not eligible to share more, you could ask the Gentoo Infrastructure team about that.
@.:deadhead:.: As a side note, showing in another way how things can break; the link in your signature is down, a permission problem. |

Ok, can you share with them the fact that we gentooes are sad that this problem is happening and that, while trusting infra team for their great work, communication is the right way.
Having http://infra-status.gentoo.org/ is a great thing, but please, it's so evident that there a problem that I'd expect at least a note on that page, if not a redirect from planet.gentoo.org to a page explaining the problem.
No one is attacking Infra team, but a better comunication could turn unhappy user into great supporter, this is valid for paid services, and also for beautiful project like this.
