when I run

Code:
emerge --ask freenet

I receive the following error:

how do I obtain the requested outputs for troubleshooting?

shoelesshunter78,

Make friends with wgetpaste and use it to post var/log/portage/net-p2p:freenet-0.7.5_p1459:20140228-231514.log

The output of emerge --info '=net-p2p/freenet-0.7.5_p1459::gentoo may be useful too.

var/log/portage/net-p2p:freenet-0.7.5_p1459:20140228-231514.log

is an empty file and

Code:
emerge --info '=net-p2p/freenet-0.7.5_p1459::gentoo

brings a command prompt.

You're missing a closing quote at the end of that command, try this:
Code:
emerge --info '=net-p2p/freenet-0.7.5_p1459::gentoo'

I just tried and I have the same problem. I'm guessing this a bug, you should report it here: https://bugs.gentoo.org (I have to leave, I don't have the time right now).

SirRobin2318,
Code:
    [javac] Compiling 1053 source files to /var/tmp/portage/net-p2p/freenet-0.7.5_p1459/work/fred-official-build01459/build/main
    [javac] /var/tmp/portage/net-p2p/freenet-0.7.5_p1459/work/fred-official-build01459/src/freenet/support/io/FileUtil.java:28: cannot find symbol
    [javac] symbol  : class CipherInputStream
    [javac] location: package org.bouncycastle.crypto.io
    [javac] import org.bouncycastle.crypto.io.CipherInputStream;
is your first error.

It says in effect, that you have something missing.

I have icedtea-bin-7, you have icedtea-bin-6.
I do not have multilib nor policykit.

In fact, this install is fairly junk free. I'll reboot into a more standard install and try again once my media player has finished using this box for a distcc build host.

That doesn't satisfy the dependency, =net-p2p/freenet-0.7.5_p1459 depends on >=dev-java/bcprov-1.45:0. `eshowkw dev-java/bcprov` yields that 1.45, 1.49-r2 and and 1.50 are part of SLOT 0 (indicated by :0 in the dependency) and higher or equal to 1.45; take note that 1.45-r1 is not in SLOT 0. So, I assume you have more versions installed; and you have only mentioned the first one.

Can you do `echo /var/db/pkg/dev-java/bcprov*` to show me which versions are installed?

This is a mix of a too new freenet with a too old bcprov.

Okay, I've slotted a working 1.49-r3 dependency into SLOT 1.49 and made that freenet depend on it; wait a few hours, then sync your Portage tree and try again.

+ 02 Mar 2014; Tom Wijsman <TomWij@gentoo.org> +bcprov-1.49-r3.ebuild:
+ Make slot for 1.49 to unbreak reverse dependency net-p2p/freenet.

+ 02 Mar 2014; Tom Wijsman <TomWij@gentoo.org> freenet-0.7.5_p1459.ebuild:
+ Unbreak dependency on bcprov in latest version by depending on new SLOT 1.49.

Thank you for making this thread.
