Hi everyone 
I've been using Gentoo since this summer, as my only operating system on three different computers. (looove gentoo btw<3)
While I've managed to solve all the complications I've had so far on my own computers. Now that I'm installing gentoo for a friend, I can't get the asus-laptop module to work. And after a week of trying, I figured I'd join the forum and ask for help
In short, I'm unable to make the laptop able to change volume using the FN keys. I fixed something like this on my laptop (Asus X52JV) but I can't figure out the problem on this laptop (Asus N53S)
I've read countless posts on the internet about the same problem, however none of the solutions work. I've tried countless different kernels and kernel settings, but I just can't seem to find the right ones.
After the search I've narrowed it down to the asus-laptop module (which works perfectly on my X52JV laptop, with the same kernel settings btw)
The asus-laptop kernel module refuses to load.

Forcing gives exec error, which is why I think it's broken?

I've tried loading the module at boot with /etc/conf.d/modules but that just fails on boot.
As I've tried too many things to count, trying fix this, I'm not sure what info you might need to help. If you notice something missing, please tell me, and I'll update as soon as possible.

I finally figured it out by my self, by playing some more with kernel settings

It's a pity you haven't written them here.
Update: adding `acpi_osi=Linux` to kernel command line in GRUB fixed that for me. |
