|
|
Hi, I got VLC running and it runs fine and shows the subtitles with no problem. The issue is: if I change any default setting the subtitles get very weird, and very tiny.
By default settings: font type and/or video output.
Default VLC:

Tried to change the color (runs fine):

Tried to change font type or video output (damn):

You might not be able to see but there is a really really small text on the bottom of the video (I made an arrow on it to point where the text is).
I am running VLC from ~amd64 and infinality.
EDIT: it seems that if I change only the "video output" it still works but if I try to change the default font (Andale Mono) it doesn't work. Even if I set Andale Mono back it still doesn't work (I have to remove ~/.config/vlc directory and start again). |

Yes, 2.0.7 (which I believe you run, as it is stable) shows this problem; this was fixed in later versions, you can accept keywords on 2.1.2 or await stabilization of https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=499806 |

Okay, I'll do more tests what happens if they are changed when I do the bump to 2.1.3 later this week; I believe however that some of the fonts cause this problem, it's why we've changed the default font in the first place. I'll also do some research online as well as upstream to see if I can find the source of this problems; from early thoughts, it is as if fontconfig or freetype2 has some kind of bug or at least the way vlc uses those. |

Just installed it on a fresh sytem without infinality, same problem happening. One thing I noticed is that whenever I remove the "~/.config/vlc" directory VLC might use another font as default (I noticed it using dejavu sans, andale mono e andale sans). The fonts VLC choose as default works fine but if I change the issue happens again (even if I change it back to the default font later). This is very strange and kinda annoying. |
