|
|
I have a a Sparc20 clone, two single Ross 150mhz processors, 256mb ram, 4x scsi cd-r, and a seagate 4.5gb hdd. Trying to boot 'gentoo-smp' all seems normal until this:
Code: | esp0: target 6 asynchronous
esp0: !BSERV after data, probably to msgout
esp0: Disconnect amidst phases, pphase, pphase <DATAIN> cphase<CLUELESS>, device is bolixed
scsi0 channel 0 : resetting for second half of retries.
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
esp0: Resetting scsi bus
SCSI host 0 channel 0 reset (pid 17) timed out-trying harder
SCSI bus is being reset for host 0 channel 0.
esp0: Resetting scsi bus
SCSI host 0 reset (pid 17) timed out again -
probably an unrecoverable SCSI bus or device hang.
esp0: SCSI bus reset interrupt |
And then it just hangs there. Has anyone with multiple procs had a problem with this image? Choosing the single proc gives no such error, and runs right on through to the login promt. |

smp hypersparc support is very hit and miss at the moment in the kernel. If it boots and runs with the regular kernel, I'd try that. |

I woudnt really care, but hey, i would like the benefit of the second processor. Is there any way to get this going after the fact? Or do I just have a an extra paper weight in there now? I know that there wont be a huge difference, but im sure it would be noticable. If there is no way to get it going, then ill just sell it on ebay, i wound up getting four of them total, so Id like to make use of them if i can.
Is there another image that runs ok with smp? Or is this a work-in-progress? |

If you can get it working with the regular kernel, you may be able to make use of SMP once the system has rebooted after the initial install. There have been some fixes to help smp hypersparc in more recent kernels iirc, but still is buggy (one of our devs managed to get his system to boot once after about 20 tries, but once it was up it worked fine). |

I'd say get your kernel going asap before trying to compile very much. So at least you'll get faster compiles. _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe

Is there a way to start of with the regular kernel, and then slip the smp into the mix later on? Or do i need to get it all sorted first? Time is not really an issue, i have plenty of other boxes to keep me busy. |

While doing the initial installation no. Later on, you could build yourself two kernels, one with smp enabled and one without. You'll have to reboot to change them, but that should help you use the system either way. |

Does anyone have a link for rc4 for sparc? I ask because I am having an issue getting eth0 onbard to activate. Im planning on a stage one, so it doesnt really matter what image it is i guess. Is there an difference for network drivers between rc4 and rc5? I didnt have this problem with rc4 at all. Hardware Axil320 (ss20) onboard ethernet. |

Well, forgive me, but I will assume you do have a windows computer with a burner that you have access to.
Using Nero, when the 'wizard' comes up, close it. Click on 'recorder', then choose 'burn image' and then select your .iso that you downloaded. Then click burn (preferably at a slow speed) and you should be set. |
