What do you use to determine whether or not a species that is not endangered should or shouldn't be eaten? Since you don't think either whales or dolphins should be eaten, I'm guessing you extend that to primates and elephants? But where is the line drawn? What makes an animal "dumb enough" to eat? |
basic test: any animal that is dumb enough to not like me is on a fast path to the pan.
That means: cats? Eat them! Horses? Don't eat them.
But there is also the 'deliciousness' test. Pigs are lovely animals, so are geese. But they are also very tasty. Eat them!
then there is the asshole test: lions are assholes, eat them! Sharks are cool, don't eat them!
and finally, everything that angers those slit eyed mongrels in the east is a good thing:
Dolphins aren't very smart, but they are also not very tasty and you can piss off the Japanese banning their consumption: don't eat them! _________________ Study finds stunning lack of racial, gender, and economic diversity among middle-class white males

I never said that. It is what it is. Not good or bad. |

Good point. Allow me to clarify. I meant that even something which apparently threatens to render a species extinct can end up enabling a species to survive and thrive in the long term.
This is what I kept trying to tell McGruff about global warming, but it just made an artery stand out on his forehead. |

Honestly, If whales are intellegent enough to deserve our respect, they also deserve a little competition. It will only make them better in the long run. |

I once knew someone who claimed to enjoy hitting himself on the head repeatedly with a rock, because it always felt so good when he'd stop. |

I think there is a difference between culling the weak and exterminating the species... _________________ "History began on July 4,1776. Everything before that was a mistake." -Ron Swanson |
