I've got the same problem, still...
1) What is a UNIX spool? LPD?
The problem is, however, that I'd need to know the queue name (and I don't know it!)
What I did was sniffing what a windows machine does when printing over the USR8000. (ethereal)
(client 192.168.123.3, router=printserver:192.168.123.254)
http://www.wb-akustik.at/Thomas/misc/dr ... _an_lj5000
the destination port is "printer (515)", protocol is LPD, LPRng for controlling some things.
that finding is a huge improvement (till now i was always trying to use port 9100 without effort..)
but in CUPS's setup I cannot define a port using LPD (and with LPD printer setup I cannot use my PPD driver for the attached LaserJet 5000, and postscript does not work either)
using TCP Network printer:
i can define IP and port to use, and a port scan even detects the router's=printerserver's IP, when scanning for port 515 (but scanning for 21 also detects it, so it's only prove of the router accepting connections on that port and not really that it will take printer jobs...)
a printout results in nothing.
if ne1 having some experience with protocols and sniffing whatever and some printing experience, (s)he could surely help!
or - of course - if you have an USR8000 working with linux...
please help!
every tip will be highly appreciated!
