I just rented an Intel 2-core (4 w/ht) 3.4ghz 8gb server with ~40ms ping. It came with a stage three gentoo. It took less than 30min to get my password.

It runs good. 8) I'm building a quake2 server. Yeah!

Sounds like you enabled debugging symbols. IIRC debugging symbols for large SW like Firefox take several GB.
Enabling all LINGUAS also adds a lot.

It is a "latest Gentoo distro". It was just there. --sync was ridiculously fast. I wasn't aware that Gentoo was available with debugging.

The LINGUAS did not seem to be enabled.

Looks like either business has been really good or they ran out of capacity rather quick.

im sure they like the web application documentation on the wiki

id probably run a wordpress blog on your quake servers website, or a forum.

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Category:Web_application

i need to document vhost examples on the apache wiki page.

Wordpress never lets me in. But a forum and website would be cool.

BTW I had read the df output incorrectly. It seems that there are 3 partitions and the rootfs is small in comparison to the /home directory. So there are partitions set-up in which I can build a super server.

I'd like to have a database and a webserver that would access that database, in addition to the action quake2 server. A real problem has been just uploading data from my physical location. Once that is done, I should be able to deliver maximum bandwidth to my clients. My DL speed tops out at 4.14MB/s. Theoretically this could be much faster.

Oh shit.

My suspicion is that these servers are involved in VOIP, as they are in Canada as is Comcast which runs cable based IP phones. I imagine the market is rather intense as landlines are increasingly a thing of the past. So I imagine more servers will open up soon -- especially with the cost sharing demand.

wordpress should be really easy, its just /wp-admin then administrate as per usual, then when done its /... id use subdomains so it would blog.domain.com/wp-admin
forum.domain.com/

the phpbb, wiki, & wp articles should be very straight forward and easy. i would point vhosts @ $HOME/forum $HOME/blog $HOME/wiki apache wiki explains vhosts.

idk i think the whole thing (ebuilds) should just be wrappers for installing all the web applications dependencies. id never had experience with vhosts or gentoo on the cloud for that. pretty sad... never seen gentoo offered from a vps.

idk voip, that knowledge alludes me. i need sutras, short straight to the point phrases. zero bs fluff = WIN....
