|
|
Hi,
i've just updated to gnome 3.8.0 but after the update, i've a very high cpu load (60% for all 4 threads using an I7) even if only firefox and thunderbird are opened. Most of the cpu usage is caused by the gnome-shell processes.
Now the battery service life of my thinkpad is only about 1.5 hours, which is a huge reduction compared to my gnome2 system (over 4 hours).
My question is, if someone has the same problems and if there is anyone who has a solution for this problem.
Some details about my system:
Gnome3.8.0: Installed versions: 3.8.0-r1(2.0)(09:51:18 09.12.2013)(bluetooth cdr classic cups extras -accessibility -flashback)
I'm using it in the classic mode
kernel: 3.10.17-gentoo
So i hope i get some help here.
Thanks,
Domi

See what the process is doing with strace, ltrace, gdb and similar troubleshooting tools. |

Start by disabling/uninstalling any extensions you might have enabled/downloaded.

sorry...i was not online for the last weeks
when using lsof and observing the process, i can not really see something why my cpu load should be so high
acutally...i have no extensions installed (only the default) and they are all disabled
i noticed, that the cpu load rises, after opening some flash (youtube etc) in firefox or chromium |

Did you get it fixed? Your CPU load is high or not? |

Adobe Flash is a blob that have always give troubles. It was making my Gentoo installation completely freeze until I disable the hardware acceleration in the Flash parameters. Since then, I have no problem. I see no degradation in Youtube.
Doing that will make Flash use the Cpu instead of the Gpu for graphical calculs, but it will free other graphical applications to use the Gpu. Something is wrong with hardware acceleration in Flash with Gentoo.
Note that you can use Gtk Youtube viewer to watch videos on Youtube using Mplayer. It's great ! _________________ Paul
