emerge and qt question

Ok this is the story (short).
I got myself a wintv card from a friend who didn't need it anymore.

I decided to use mythtv.

However on the mythtv site it said that I need to have mysql in my USE
variable in make.conf, and if I don't have it I will have to recompile qt with it in the USE variable.

I have already compiled qt once and that took quite some time, several hours in fact.

Now my question is, if i run:

emerge qt

after adding mysql to my USE variable will it recompile the whole qt package or just the new mysql part?

emerge will generally recompile the complete package. It is able to compile packages, but not some parts of packages. This will perhaps be a feature of portage-ng.
There is no way around to recompile qt complete.
I'm emerging qt right now, and it truely takes very long.
