here's what I get in /var/log/messages when this occurs

Code:

    Dec 25 19:19:00 localhost kernel: [ 1141.133246] xfce4-session[3109]: segfault at ffffffff00000000 ip 00007f8c3439736f sp 00007fff757369a0 $
Dec 25 19:19:00 localhost slim: pam_unix(slim:session): session closed for user thender

I use slim as a desktop manager via xdm to start an XFCE4 session. So, xdm is in my init.d, it starts at boot, and starts slim.

When this happens it'll crash back to a text console, then 5 seconds later xdm/slim will start and I'll be at a graphical screen requesting my username/password to login.

I can be using vdpau to decode 1080p x264 to a television for 3 hours and no crash, but I decide to open an mp3 file in smplayer, or start skype, or open aurora, and it'll crash. Where can I start troubleshooting this random crashing?

So far I've tried recompiling a new kernel, I masked the nvidia 330 driver to go back to the nvidia 319 driver, but same result. :(

happened again, here's dmesg output when it occurred. I bolded the interesting part.

Googling the glib error I got, sent me here.

Seems like it's xfce related. I'll try the newer xfce4-session and see what comes of it.

The suggestion in this thread to try that version of xfce4-session didn't work, same thing.

I switched to MATE, knock on wood, no problems for a full day.

Good riddance XFCE!

XFCE will allow me to maximize a window on one monitor.

With MATE, if I have a dual-display setup, a single window will maximize itself across two monitors.

It is impossible to use a computer like this. Especially for watching a movie.. how do you do that across a laptop screen and a television?

Is there a way to get XFCE to stop crashing? :(
