QL is dropping off the browser, and instead running through a windows client. I am very pleased to find my subscription expiring on 21/12, allowing me to cancel it before renewal.
I would like to think ID will come to regret the decision, and come back with native Linux support. Until then, I'm out.....

I am happy about this; going from their broken browser plugin to a client that I can run with wine sounds good, there is a high chance it just works. |

I never had any issues with the plugin in firefox.
I do have virtual box installed. I may be tempted to give it a go, as I do enjoy the odd fragfest! Unless of course I can find an alternative game... |

Loaded up Virtualbox, and installed the standalone program. Once in a game (after taking ages to connect), I only see the floor, and spin around. Looking in the forum, this appears to be a long running and quite prevalent bug. The workarounds given don't work here.
So, I am on the lookout for a decent fragfest game other than quake live which runs natively in Linux..... |

I loaded up wine, and then downloaded the standalone program. It worked once, but then subsequent invocations don't open the main screen when clicking "Play" in the login screen. What problems did you have? I am not a wine user, so I need to go and find where the logfiles are...! |

Follow the steps on http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=29536&iTestingId=82100 though it still doesn't work here due to "Unhandled Exception: System.ArgumentException: Parameter is not valid." which is a .NET error; but what exactly is going on here, I don't know. Must be an incompatibility though, as on that very same page it is reported working... |

Success! Followed the instructions as you advised Tomwij, and it is now working correctly (as far as I can ascertain).
Thanks! |
