Assisting with the installation of Gentoo Linux falls under Gentoo Linux support, so the existing channel works just fine.

some people would like to use it for community also.... example: so i can say c, c++, python, and bash are the main languages that power gentoo (though not the only ones) with out iamben banning me from #gentoo....

* Cannot join #gentoo (You are banned).
* Cannot join #gentoo (You are banned).
* Cannot join #gentoo (You are banned).
* Cannot join #gentoo (You are banned).

completely not sufficient.... i can roll up to #slackware not even use slackware and say those kinds of things no problem. gentoo's rotting from the top down.

In fairness, it's a support channel. Community is encouraged here, though.

I agree with kurly. Having general support in one channel makes most sense, since it leads to cross-pollination of knowledge and ideas. I've often found myself helping someone with installation, even though I'm there for more general support, and that leads to me being aware of more current issues. If it seems to require more specialist discussion, we can easily refer them eg to #gentoo-dev-help for ebuilds, or #gentoo-desktop, #gentoo-haskell and so on.

WRT your off-topic chat, you should know by now to use #gentoo-chat so I don't see any real issue.

Accept your ban, and wait it out.

Oh, and there is no real "top" in Gentoo; IRC ops certainly aren't it, in any event. Council and Trustees are, with complementary aspects, in formal terms, but there's no real hierarchy amongst developers, beyond expertise. And everyone started out knowing nothing at all, irrespective of how they might carry on nowadays.
