As one rises, another falls:
Quote:
Icelandic police have shot dead a man who was firing a shotgun in his apartment in the early hours of Monday.
It is the first time someone has been killed in an armed police operation in Iceland, officials say.

about 80-90 murders a year in London. I guess that puts it at one every 100 hours or so.

why ban hours? the government should ban years. then there would be no more murders per year.

or pitbulls. people don't seem to like pitbulls. poor little pitbulls.

out of curiosity, when does the nanny state apply? I get the label in the case of drugs (i need the state to protect me from myself), but what about when I want the state to protect me from someone else rabid dog?

The term applies when the government is being excessive. From a decision analysis perspective, I would say it applies when the total harm done by the presumably protective intent exceeds the total harm avoided by it.

I'd say leash laws are a good example (except in cities).

For me at least, a lot comes into play when it is hypocritical. For example, the state doesn't protect you from someone else's out of control car. Yet there are no NannyStaters demanding they be banned.

Also:
Quote:
Mama's gonna make all of your
Nightmares come true
Mama's gonna put all of her fears into you
Mama's gonna keep you right here
Under her wing
she won't let you fly but she might let you sing
Mama will keep baby cosy and warm
Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe
Of course Mama's gonna help build the wall

Hush now baby, baby don't you cry
Mama's gonna check out all your girl friends for you
Mama won't let anyone dirty get through
Mama's gonna wait up till you get in
Mama will always find out where
You've been
Mamma's gonna keep baby healthy and clean
Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe Ooooh Babe
You'll always be a baby to me
Mother, did it need to be so high.

oh, but they do. drinking and driving is banned. licences are tested for and given out. etc etc all sort of big govt interference.

a country without cars is something that will have all sorts of problems. America without guns will just be canada.

Then we agree, it isn't banned. I'd rather have no cars than turn into Canada (I wish Canadians the government of their choosing, but that isn't what I would choose).

why? is the convinience of dog owners more important than the health and lifes of humans?

Ban dog ownership with exceptions for working dogs. Almost all problems solved.

a country without cars is something that will have all sorts of problems. America without 50 million rapidly-breeding descendants of Africans enslaved for 400 years will just be Canada.
