|
|
Does anyone know how to add support for a file format to CUPS? For some
reason when I try to print the standard CUPS test file I get the error message
"unsupported format application/vnd.cups-banner". The vnd.XXX applications
are all (I thought) internal to CUPS, so I don't know how it can have gone
missing.
The /usr/share/cups/mime files have the entries:
mime.convs:application/vnd.cups-banner application/postscript 33 bannertops
mime.types:application/vnd.cups-banner string(0,'#CUPS-BANNER')
and bannertops is in /usr/libexec/cups/filter, so it should all connect up.
(There aren't any .convs files in /etc/cups.)
The actual log messages are:
Code: |
D [XXX] [Job ???] Auto-typing file...
I [XXX] [Job ???] Request file type is application/vnd.cups-banner.
D [XXX] Print-Job client-error-document-format-not-supported: Unsupported format 'application/vnd.cups-banner'!
E [XXX] Returning IPP client-error-document-format-not-supported for Print-Job (ipp://localhost:631/printers/Samsung2251N) from localhost
|
This printer has run without problems under CUPS for four or five years now,
and anyway I doubt the printer is the problem. It looks like an internal CUPS
error, but it still should be possible to add support for the filetype somehow.
Thanks for any ideas - Will

some people have solved similar problems by re-installing
ghostscript ... _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth
doing as simply messing about with Linux ...

Changing the standard /usr/share/cups/data/testprint file to the cups 1.3.11
postscript file changed the error message to "unsupported format application/postscript".
Re-emerging cups 1.4.8 and ghostscript-gpl 9.04 made no further difference.
The cupsfilter command worked ok, so I started digging into the various
directories CUPS has scattered around the place. In the end, clearing out
the /var/cache/cups directory finally got printing going. Be nice if a re-install
cleared that directory.
