|
|
Hello!
Installed Cinnamon 2.0.11-r1. My native language is german. de_DE.UTF-8 is the main locale I use. Everything is setup ok with locales and env variables. No problem in console, my fav keymap is de-latin1-nodeadkeys.
Within Cinnamon I cannot set the keymap, can't see the keymap switch in applets (also got no flag for it). I'm using LXDM as login manager.
In regional settings see screenshot: showing a english layout (us) but DE is chosen.
http://abload.de/img/keymap8uc30.png
I can set keymap manually via setxkbmap de, but if switching to console/terminal (tty) and back to X, the keymap is gone. Still us then there.
Even cant load any other languages, nor switch translations to english.
I also have a | sign in inactive windows title. Thats also not normal I think.
Is there something wrong with LXDM? missing initscripts? built a custom kernel, maybe missing some i18n support as modules? built the default ones along with european cp850 as module. |

I am also a native german speaker and I used to use some xkeyboard applet for the panel to permanently get the german keyboard layout. As I switched over to I3 and quite happy iwth that, I can*t tell you what applet it was. |

I think you mean the built-in keyboard applet, which allows to switch maps and also shows a flag. I dont even have that flag.
Something is really broken there. Guess I have to start from really scratch with my gentoo... just to be sure.
Thinking of asking & writing a guide for installation of Cinnamon... As I really like it. On other distros it has other issues like jerky gfx support, dunno even why. Gentoo it runs very smooth. |

Just make a new user with a clean home directory and see if its gone. Sometimes these destop stuff mess up with config files. ... |

Did that. No change.
I also added some languages with LINGUAS option in make.conf and re-emerged f.e. cinnamon-translations package.
They're now listed, if I select one no change in screen text language. I also cannot add any other languages by the settings menu. No other format (number, time display handling etc.) there's only German in the list. Keyboard layout shows a large list, I can add some, but it does not change anything.. |

Seems we have the same problem so it's not only me. I also did edit various config files, but none did work.
"Good" to know there seems to be work on it.
I should now watch the github threads? |
