Every time that I start Skype a folder appears in my home. I delete it every time but it always comes back.

I'm using =net-im/skype-4.2.0.11-r1 ~amd64

Code:

$ ls -R
.:
fontconfig

./fontconfig:
12b26b760a24f8b4feb03ad48a333a72-le32d4.cache-3

Do you have a setting to override the cache dir? Those files should go in ~/.cache/fontconfig/

Anything interesting in:
Code:
export | grep XDG

Especially XDG_CACHE_HOME, which should be unset.

That variable is unset... should I set it to ".cache/" somewhere in my config files? (if so, where?)

To work around this issue you can rename the "fontconfig" directory to ".fontconfig". Refer to bug 486338.
