Hello everybody,
Good news, my netbook is going back to gentoo soon.
I'm looking for suggestions on what UI to put on it.
It's going to be used basically as a system monitor screen. I'd like to have to basically bootup exactly as wanted without user intervention such as entering a password.
I'm looking for something that will run on an atom processor(n270@1.6Ghz) with 1G of ram.
It needs to be able to do the following
1: Start programs automatically on boot. Mostly, conky running over ssh.
2: Keep the screen turned on at all time and not have any kind of screensaver
3: Be able to rotate the background image from a list (file) or folder.
4: Have a shutdown button that doesn't require entering root password.
It would be nice if I could also get the conky frames transparents, but I need to look more into conky first. I'm also open to suggestions if anyone as a better idea for monitoring boxes over the network. _________________ Someone asked me once if I suffered from mental illness. You'll want something very simple; I am not sure if you can do this on a plain Xorg server (worth trying), but you might want at least a window manager perhaps. See `ls /usr/portage/x11-wm/` for a list of them. |
