Hello,

I just moved and don't have wired internet anymore, so I bought myself an Intel Centrino 2200 pci-e wireless card. I couldn't get the driver built on my old 3.6.someting kernel, so I figured I'd use the gentoo install disk to boot in , and then chroot and etc etc.

Unfortunately the gentoo install disk with the 3.8.10 kernel isn't doing the trick.

Here are the errors:

Failed to load firmware chrunk!
Could not load the [0] uCode section
Failed to run INIT ucode: -110
Unable to initialize device.

Now, I did check /lib/firmware and the correct firmware is indeed there. What can I do to get teh firmware to load ?

try systemrescuecd (it's gentoo based and you can do a full install from it)

http://www.sysresccd.org/SystemRescueCd_Homepage

you can also make a liveusb

wifi works off the bat in it

also: use the alternative kernel for newer hardware

also: there's a bug in the GRUB boot lines on the version i'm using (which is pretty new) where you need to change "isolinux" to "syslinux" (2 lines)

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format.

highlight the boot line you want to try then press "e" to edit it

then change the two lines that have the word "isolinux" in them (replace "iso" with "sys") so those two lines say blah blah /syslinux blah blah instead of

blah blah /isolinux blah blah

Did you try it regular? I think that bug only occurs if you're using the liveusb
