PostPosted: Wed Oct 23, 2013 6:44 pm    Post subject: [Solved] After boot blank screen + freeze w/startx Reply with quote

I was using my pc regularly. There happened to be 2 kernels. kernel-3.10.7-gentoo and kernel-3-10-7-gentoo-r1 at some time.
I made symlink to newer kernel and removed old kernel but things that I mentioned in the title happened. (After boot blank screen and after I press a key login screen comes I change to usr and enter startx the pc freezes)

My first question is: how can I get the warnings or info like the below because I can't catch them whith long emerges.
Quote:

* Please do not file a Gentoo bug and instead report the above QA
* issues directly to the upstream developers of this software.

In the kernel
Code:
<*> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)  --->
            [ ] VGA Arbitration
[ ] Laptop Hybrid Graphics - GPU switching support
<*> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)  --->
            < > 3dfx Banshee/Voodoo3+

The page after <*> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support) ---> is empty.
I have no idea about warning: implicit declaration of function 'miInitializeBackingStore' [-Wimplicit-function-declaration]

For the framebuffer (fb0 warning in Xorg.0.log) I followed the wiki.gentoo and double checked the framebuffer issues.

All help are welcome.

Did you compile the new kernl or just update the symlink?

Code:
lspci | grep vga

If that fails just:
Code:
lspci

Edit: lspci | grep vga with capitals --> lspci | grep VGA gives this:

Code:
baks linux # lspci | grep VGA

lspci | grep vga is also without output

lspci is below:
Code:

baks ~ # lspci | grep vga
baks ~ # lspci

According to that wiki

Code:
Code: Kernel Configuration
Device Drivers  --->
 Character devices  --->
  <*> /dev/agpgart (AGP Support)
   <*> VIA chipset support
<*> Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
   [u]<*> Via unichrome video cards[/u]

But the page when I hit
Quote:
Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
has only this line
Quote:
--- Direct Rendering Ma[/i]nager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support
and nothing else

This thread is abıut the problem occuring with my previous kernel which was kernel-3.10.7-gentoo-r1. Since I downgraded my kernel I'm opening a new thread with a new title.

If the below is a patch how can I apply it?

Code:
# Remove obsolete references to mibstore.h and miInitializeBackingStore():
grep -r -l '#include "mibstore.h"' * | while read file ; do
  sed -i "s/#include \"mibstore.h\"//g" $file
done
grep -r -l '#include <mibstore.h>' * | while read file ; do
  sed -i "s/#include <mibstore.h>//g" $file
done
grep -r -l 'miInitializeBackingStore(pScreen);' | while read file ; do
  sed -i "s/miInitializeBackingStore(pScreen);//g" $file
done

The above is not a patch.

The below is a patch:

Submit a Bug to have that patch submitted to the kernel sources
