Just have to say this.
I've been using Gentoo since 2007 and it was my first Linux.
Sometimes I take a look at a live environment and I quite like what I see.
So yesterday my girlfriend got my dad's old laptop (running Vista) and I promised her to install Linux on it. She pointed out that I don't have that much time at the moment, new term at university starting and whatnot so I suggested I install Mint.
Did so today. It surely does look nice (Cinnamon and Mate) and it runs. But somehow I feel left out. I didn't really have a say in anything except partitioning. A lot of bloat made its way onto the HDD, I have no idea what the kernel does or does not and so on.
After 6 years of Gentoo only (with some exposure to Suse at work and Mint at a friend's) this feels extremely awkward.
So, in other words:
Thank you Gentoo developers, sponsors, helpers etc. for making a flavour of Linux that gives me control over my system. To another 6 years and beyond. _________________ Kali Ma
