|
|
Hi
I did an emerge -uDN and after the graphical login screen there's no desktop.
Is there a way to see the warnings that are generated during an emerge? Because when I came back to the box I read a warning something like "you mayhave to emerge xorg-server for your keyboard...etc"... I may have missed warnings that occured during the emerges that happened when I was away from the box.
The message that I received when I tried to emerge xorg-server is:
Code: | baks ~ # emerge -av xorg-server

In the dmesg there are somethings that say "broken bios", "invalid gcc profile".
When I tried to get the emerge --info -avuDN world|wgetpaste I got this message:
Code: | baks ~ # emerge --info -avuDN world|wgetpaste
!!! No gcc found. You probably need to 'source /etc/profile'
!!! to update the environment of this terminal and possibly
!!! other terminals also.

Firstly, run # gcc-config -l
Then select one using (for example): # gcc-config 1
... or the full name (for example): # gcc-config x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-4.8.1
and follow any instructions the output gives you.
You need to set your new gcc via gcc-config before depclean-ing the currently used "old" one. |

Ok.
I selected # gcc-config 1 succesfully.
Now I'm running emerge xorg-server now. |

I did emerge xorg-server and emerge xorg-drivers
But still I'm with a blank screen and a mouse pointer.
The /var/log/Xorg.0.log is:

Okay good, 1 issue down.
I really have no idea, I only see one error in that log. I can only suggest you try an # emerge @x11-module-rebuild |

In the /var/log/Xorg.0.log it says:
Quote: | [ 149.788] (!!) VIA Technologies does not support this driver in any way.
[ 149.788] (!!) For support, please refer to http://www.openchrome.org/.
|
and the errors are
Quote: | [ 149.783] (EE) Failed to load module "vesa" (module does not exist, 0)
[ 149.783] (EE) Failed to load module "modesetting" (module does not exist, 0)
[ 149.784] (EE) Failed to load module "fbdev" (module does not exist, 0)
[ 150.234] (EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/unichrome_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/unichrome_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
[ 150.234] (EE) AIGLX: reverting to software rendering
|
Down below the log supported chipsets are:
Quote: | [ 149.784] (II) OPENCHROME: Driver for VIA Chrome chipsets: CLE266, KM400/KN400,
K8M800/K8N800, PM800/PM880/CN400, VM800/P4M800Pro/VN800/CN700,
CX700/VX700, K8M890/K8N890, P4M890, P4M900/VN896/CN896, VX800/VX820,
VX855/VX875, VX900 |
My chipset
Code: | 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. CN700/P4M800 Pro/P4M800 CE/VN800 Graphics [S3 UniChrome Pro] (rev 01)
|
I have no idea about how to read chipset numbers. Is my graphics card supported or not? If supported what should I correct? If not supported how can I get rid off openchrome and get a working driver? |

Ah, I actually deleted that suggestion after I had a look at my own log and saw the same errors. I don't think they're your problem.
Code: | [ 20.057] (EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory |
That I suspect is more to do with it.
Is Code: | x11-drivers/xf86-video-openchrome | actually installed?
EDIT: Code: | (EE) AIGLX error: dlopen of /usr/lib/dri/unichrome_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/unichrome_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) |
That's your problem, I've recreated it by renaming the equivalent file on my setup. Check that your driver hasn't been uninstalled, if it hasn't then I think revdep-rebuild might fix it. It did on mine. |

Sorry for late reply. I was unmerging and emerging xorg-server and xorg-drivers.
revdep-rebuild didn't work.
I'm trying to emerge some older xorg-server and xorg-drivers to get rid off openchrome. Without it I was happy. |

I downgraded the driver to Quote: | x11-drivers/xf86-video-openchrome-0.3.1 |
from x11-drivers/xf86-video-openchrome-0.3.3
I have my desktop back again |
