Is that possible?
I think I've read smewhere that as long as certain parts of Cinnamon depend on Gnome 3.8 it won't work without systemd, and the output of emerge seems to proof that, since it says it'll uninstall udev and install systemd.

Cinnamon doesn't depend on gnome3.8 (which does depend on sysd). It does need some gnome3.6 libs but the lazy ebuild calls for the highest versions

Cinnamon keep forking gnome libs to become self efficient but they are not quite there yet

2.0 was released yesterday, which doesn't need gnome. I think I'll wait for that to hit portage, then, instead of rewriting ebuilds.

fully divorced of gnome?
I had to remove cinnamon when gnome3.8 was released since it kept trying to pull in sysd and upgrade to the latest gnome libs... went for a clean slate to ensure w.r.t. gnome and sysd.
