So, I got this new laptop which has some speakers embedded. However, I am unable to make it use all the speakers, it only plays in two of them.

I've played with alsamixer controls, nothing to be changed there. Any idea on how to deal with that?

The extra speakers may require special programs (like games) since they are probably for surround sound.

I honestly doubt, since the two speakers in use are just absurdely lame (I mean, its too lame even for a laptop speaker). Besides that, with my previous HP laptop it used all the speakers, including subwoofers.

Have you tried speaker-test yet?

Code:
speaker-test -c 6 -l 1

should give you 6 channels and run it one time thru. It will display in the terminal where you run the command what it's testing as it sends white-noise to that speaker.

Indeed an useful tool, I didn't know about it.
However, it only produces sound for Front Left and Front Right.

In looking over what you posted, I noticed that you have 2 audio devices. Could each set of speakers be set up for one of those audio devices?

I also noticed that you have the option of surround40 which if put into your configuration as a default may use all 4 speakers if they can be run off of the one device.

Sorry for the delay.
The second card is the HDMI device, so I don't think it should be the case. How could I test that though?
