I am trying to use guitar rig. I have installed wine, installed guitar rig, it works but it sounds like shit. I installed jack but i've no idea how to use it and documentation is mediocre at best. If I can use gentoo for my guitar playing ill have no reason for windows at all.

Not sure what guitar rig is, but you may want to visit audiodef dot com.

qjackctl & rakarrack is the 1... rakarrack (last i checked) isn't in portage, and what ever draws the ui needs some use flag (or sources (successfully tested)) to make rakarrack build.

both are native, no emulation required. rakarrack looks super cheap, but it can be setup better than guitar rig in the sound department.

i run a hardware rig also. peavey rage 158 -> ds-1 -> rg5ex1

id really like a strobe tuner for jack.... lingot works pretty good, but still not a strobe tuner. solfege is an amazing perfect pitch program. musescore will take mid file in, and spit out sheet music.

jaglover, he's asking for audio DSP, guitar sound effects.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/exef/ <--- exef is also not in portage..... this one doesnt require (or support) jack
http://freecode.com/projects/ecamegapedal <--- also not in portage..... (idk ive never seen it run.... others reported to me they have)
http://guitarix.sourceforge.net/ <--- also not in portage..... literally just found this.....

I emerged fltk, but ./configure cant find the library. how did you get this to work exactly? Would you mind going into detail with qjackctl with me? Its quite a lot of options. Ive no idea what im doing.

yes thats it FLTK installed from sources corrects that..... (im sure theres a way to fix it within portage though) sources? because this is the exact first thing i went for when i got gentoo running x. its probably a problem with a use flag needing to be enabled, rather than all enabled via source route.

qjackctl basically starts jack, then gives you visual plugs to connect things from system in, > program, > system out... or in > program > program > out, or midi in > midiprog > rakarrack > out.... you are probably going to have to close all browsers and media to start it. you want to set latency and cache so you dont get buffer problems.

qjack needs to run, before rakarrack starts...

ill try to figure out what use flag will make it show up in console as YES..... or if a new version of fltk needs unmasking or not. now that i think about it, seems like a bug, should flag fltk yes with all uses turned off shouldnt it?

i tried 3 fltks & rakarrack .1-.3-.6 all same error

FL < sources changed... rakarrack hasnt updated against upstream fltk

change
src/global.h line 102
src/process.C line 31

change Fl to FL, then rakarrack will compile.

forgive me, i should of been more clear..... global.h line 102.... #include <FL/Fl_Preferences.H>
process.C line 31..... #include <FL/Fl_Preferences.H>

the directory changed, not the files contained.

you should still be able to qjackctl in > out to get direct guitar to speakers....

im working on guitarix also.... (notes to self.... emerge liblrdf && emerge lv2) (notes to self.... ./waf configure --prefix=/usr && ./waf build && su -c './waf install')

sorry i dont have my guitar here to test guitarix right now, though it looks like it compiles and installs fine...... im leaving for 2 days. my rides late, lucky for you..
