Batman through the ages
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-23810875

If Ben Affleck's going to put on the Bat costume, will he at least bring Kevin Smith with him, have him dress up as the Green Lantern? At least then, if it's bad, it'll be "Army of Darkness" kind of bad; so bad it's awesome.[/quote]

It'll just be standard Affleck / Daredevil bad.

I really want to see Affleck as Batman. Like watching a train wreck.

After Bale, who did a good job, Afflek is going to really suck. He's going to be even worse than Clooney.

I think Leonardo Dicaprio should play Batman. His wimpy, child-like voice would add character depth, sensitivity, and effeminate vulnerability appreciated by today's emasculated beta-male audience, much like what Toby Mcguire did for Spiderman.

I think Deep Roy should play Batman. They could save lots of money on the sets, and all the other actors could just do it sitting down.

He'd be better as Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo, if there were ever a Broadway musical version of South Park.

Isn't that the nerd fantasy behind super-hero appeal?

That's true, I suppose. That's a big part of it. The average guy should be able to identify with the character. On the other hand, I think the actor's still got to be able to pull off being some kind of a bad-ass when in superhero mode.

*shrug* I thought whatisname did a good job with Spiderman. Not being a comic reader, I thought they picked an actor "appropriate" for the role as was depicted in the comic.

He was a decent fit, but the real Peter Parker was more of a geek (i.e., Mr. Junior Scientist going to someday design a nuclear rocket!) and less of a wimp (Mr. "ooh kitty with sore foot make me saaad").

Tobey Maguire is a useful actor, though. They put him across from Leonardo Dicaprio in Gatsby because he makes even Dicaprio seem manly and adult.

I don't know, been thinking about this and it comes downto the style of the film.
Bale worked well because of how he played Wayne. His 1st batman was done just as he finished the machinist so he had a perpetual tired look PERFECT, he also pulled of the playboy OK.
What made batman was it was dark, the baddies and the director

Now this new batman is a precursor to the justice league. If they keep affleck in the bat suit for the vast majority of the film and superman as superman it could be OK.
Remember they said the same things about ledger and the joker ;-) afflexk has the chin for batman so its down to the director and the baddies really especially since a lot of batman is done by stundoubles

I guess I missed that nuance.
