I have installed gnome 3.8 with systemd .
I find I only installed virtual/udev and did not install sys-fs/udev and sys-fs/eudev .
Is this abnormal ?

DESCRIPTION="Virtual to select between sys-fs/udev and sys-fs/eudev"
I do not install sys-fs/udev and sys-fs/eudev.
if systemd plays the role of udev ?

Yes, that is the logical meaning of the double pipe:
'||' is OR (of the following alternatives.)
This kind of aggregation is the only purpose of a virtual ebuild!
It enables dependend ebuilds to refer to within one line. And yes,
there is a buggy description which misses to express systemd has udev.
The description is rather Gentoo developer centric. A meaningful
description to the user would express something like:
"A placeholder for dependend ebuilds which holds the real udev implementations" |
