PostPosted: Tue Aug 13, 2013 8:06 am    Post subject: Kernel Panic after fresh install Reply with quote

I have already installed gentoo and the gnome stable version.

Once every hour or so, I get a kernel Panic:
Code:

Kernel Panic - not syncing
Fatal exception in interrupt
drm_kms_helper: panic occurred, switching back to text console

It only crashes when I'm using a graphical environment. Any clue?

This is my lspci -v output

Code:

I have been trying to get the kernel panic dump. I have the vmcore file which I get with kdump. But I can't find how to get the panic text. Crash utility is masked on gentoo.

How can I get the panic text?

Another one: Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!

Do you think using genkernel will solve the problem?

http://kernel-seeds.org/ is best start for kernel clean-up

I have tried gentoo, linux mint and fedrora. I get a Kernel Panic on the three distributions on a fresh install with the same message, All this time I thought that I was doing a mistake configuring the kernel on gentoo. I know that this question is not about gentoo anymore but I'm stucked.

It seems that my laptop doesn't overheat, at least acpi reports as much 50 degrees which is normal (I took measures when the laptop was ok)

What would you recommend me to do?

Thank you very much! :D
