Hello,
I am just doing a new installation of gentoo, however it fails to emerge gentoo sources, some it true for genkernel.
I was able to emerge wgetpast... the output of the failed emerge command can be found here:

Any help is appreciated. |

Code: | checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables |
This means gcc is missing.
Since you are installing it might be easiest to just reformat and start over.
Of course I don't know how this happened.

Actually, it is probably not that sever to merit a restart. Please post your make.conf. You probably have a typo. Since this is an install the environment should be pristine except for a few file that are edited. make.conf is the most obvious one since it is directly involved in portage operations. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

Do you have a specific reason for needing to specify your march value? I ask because -march=native is generally the safest choice since it automatically detects which settings to use and is generally preferred unless you require something different. I don't think a bad march value would be enough to cause these problems. The result would just be a binary you can't use. Everything (possibly including the march value) is sane.
You got me on what is causing this. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

Hello all,
I too get errors when trying to emerge sources, even though I use the Gentoo live CD (install-amd64-minimal-20130801.iso as it seems to be the only build bootable system in the directory). How do I copy the relevant support files to my USB flash drive so I can post them on here?
Thanks in advance.

Assuming you have an active Internet connect, emerge wgetpaste. I believe it is a python script so it should install and run fine. Use wgetpaste <file> and post the url returned. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.

@The Doctor:
You are asking for the march value, I googled for "safe flags" and found this page
http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Safe_CFLAGS#Core_i3.2Fi5.2Fi7
And set my march-value accordingly.
@All:
However it now works, although I do not know why:
I removed the qt4 and kde4 USE-Flag from the make.conf and thereafter everything went as it should ... no idea why though?!
Regards
