I get this slot conflict when I try to emerge bitcoind:

Code:

# emerge bitcoind

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N     ] dev-libs/leveldb-1.9.0-r5  USE="-snappy -static-libs"
[ebuild     U ~] dev-libs/openssl-1.0.1e-r1 [1.0.1c] USE="-bindist*"
[ebuild  N     ] net-p2p/bitcoind-0.8.1  USE="ipv6 -examples -logrotate -upnp"

!!! Multiple package instances within a single package slot have been pulled
!!! into the dependency graph, resulting in a slot conflict:

dev-libs/openssl:0

  (dev-libs/openssl-1.0.1e-r1::gentoo, ebuild scheduled for merge) pulled in by
    dev-libs/openssl:0[-bindist] required by (net-p2p/bitcoind-0.8.1::bitcoin, ebuild scheduled for merge)

  (dev-libs/openssl-1.0.1c::gentoo, installed) pulled in by
    >=dev-libs/openssl-0.9.6d:0[bindist=] required by (net-misc/openssh-5.9_p1-r4::gentoo, installed)

I had to accept a whole bunch of autounmask-write for those versions of openssl, why does it need so many different versions? This has to be a mistake of some kind?

Do you have bindist enabled globally? Please remove the entries from package.use and disable bindist globally in make.conf.

Then post output of "emerge -1pv openssh", "emerge --info" and contents of make.conf

Yes, I had bindist globally. Removed it.
Removed the entries with -bindist from package.use

Tried emerge bitcoin-qt again. Got the same conflict.

Results from the requested commands:

Code:

# emerge -1pv openssh

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Please consider to clean up your package.use file or it will become even harder to understand in the future; for instance, instead of all those lines for *dev-libs/openssl* -bindist you could just state dev-libs/openssl -bindist once.

Exactly. Make sure to apply that update (run without -p switch) and post what happens after that.

Alternatively, you can try "emerge -uNa bitcoind" .

I am wondering why bindist should be removed? does it cause any trouble?
