Just installed Gentoo on my new computer, but now I have problem with nvidia.

When I type from console "modprobe nvidia" console just hangs - cant switch to other virtualconsoles or type. In the same time ctrl+alt+del works and also caps lock and num lock works. I did ssh from another computer and messages log shows :
Code:

Aug  7 12:28:38 localhost kernel: [  480.658995] nvidia: module license 'NVIDIA' taints kernel.
Aug  7 12:28:38 localhost kernel: [  480.658997] Disabling lock debugging due to kernel taint
Aug  7 12:28:38 localhost kernel: [  480.662759] vgaarb: device changed decodes: PCI:0000:01:00.0,olddecodes=io+mem,decodes=none:owns=none
Aug  7 12:28:38 localhost kernel: [  480.662949] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module  325.15  Wed Jul 31 18:50:56 PDT 2013

nvidia module got loaded into kernel
Code:

# lsmod
Module                  Size  Used by
nvidia               9317926  0

and I can unload it, but console still frozen. Tried latest stable and unstable nvidia-drivers.

No real idea what went wrong, but I have a suggestion for making sure everything is set up properly. Use a kernel seed (link in my sig below). Any questions, feel free to ping me or Pappy. 8)

(I have a system with an Nvidia card, and this helped me bypass some issues.)

damned... I took http://kernel-seeds.gentoostudio.org/seeds/64_bit/gentoo/3.8.13-gentoo-x86_64-08.config, added intel/marvel sata support and.. nvidia driver got inserted into kernel with no problems. Now I need some lucky finger and enormous amount of vaseline to find out the important setting ...

I'm glad that helped. Pappy put a lot of work into the kernel seeds and I'm proud to host a mirror. Defconfig should really be a kernel seed.

I finally got everything running - it took 15min after I decided to pull in new and unstable kernel 3.10.7 instead of current stable 3.8.13. Minor tweaks in config related to filesystems and Graphic support (removed intel) and now I have nice KDE running on my box.
