Hi gentoo experts,

I use the KDE overlay that I installed via layman:
Code:
 layman -f -a kde

I've been a very happy user for months now, but in the last few weeks when I run "eix-update" hundreds of packages (all of the packages?) in the KDE overlay fail with a message like:

Code:
   Reading category   7|160 (  4%): app-cdr .. * ERROR: app-cdr/k3b-9999:: failed (depend phase):
 *   kde4-base.eclass could not be found by inherit()
 *
 * Call stack:
 *         ebuild.sh, line 545:  Called source '/var/lib/layman/kde/app-cdr/k3b/k3b-9999.ebuild'
 *   k3b-9999.ebuild, line  24:  Called inherit 'kde4-base'
 *         ebuild.sh, line 257:  Called die
 * The specific snippet of code:
 *              [[ -z ${location} ]] && die "${1}.eclass could not be found by inherit()"
 *
 * If you need support, post the output of `emerge --info '=app-cdr/k3b-9999::'`,
 * the complete build log and the output of `emerge -pqv '=app-cdr/k3b-9999::'`.
 * Working directory: '/usr/lib/portage/pym'
 * S: '/k3b-9999'

980 packages have this error in total. The full output of eix-update (nearly 1 MB of text) is here:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_2AzmsOXSi5cUZoWWM0a09NWGc/edit?usp=sharing

I have observed this behavior in eix 0.28.5 and 0.29.1.

My output of emerge --info is below:

Code:

7:30:07 root@blueberry Desktop emerge --info

Same problem for me, so it's probably the overlay.

Surely the overlay can't have been messed up for weeks? It's actively maintained, isn't it?

Is there another way (other than layman) to get the latest and greatest KDE overlay for gentoo?

That's good to hear. For now, the latest version of eix in the tree is 29.1. So I guess I'll just wait patiently for eix 29.2... unless there's a faster way to get it?

Thanks

I just wanted to confirm that updating to eix 0.29.3 solved the problem. This can be marked as "solved".

I'm a bit lost here... I have the same issue with the "qt" overlay (I develop software with Qt5), and I don't even have eix installed. I've since installed eix 0.29.3 (apparently the latest stable version), and I still have this issue. Every ebuild in the qt overlay claims its missing its eclasses (even basic ones like eutils). This appears to have happened immediately after updating portage to 2.2 from 2.1. I've spent much of the day looking for a means of resolving this, but have been unsuccessful.

On many of my machines, it complained about this for my local overlays as well, but only on one pass... running emerge a second time apparently "cleared" the cache on the local overlay and got it working. Not so on the layman overlays, apparently. This if frustrating :evil:
