Hi-Ya
I have both the minimal CD & the live DVD & both just hang. My screen fills with ellipses & eventually boots into Vista (after I've given up and gone to bed).
HP 6930p laptop running 32 bit Vista Business. 2 GB ram. Core 2 Duo @ 2.66 Ghz. Purchased laptop used specifically to run Linux (replaces Pentium 3 desktop I ran Lubuntu on).

Will the machine boot _any_ liveDVD? Or possibly a USB, made with unetbootin?
Otherwise, run a checksum of the downloads.

When you burned the .iso file to the CD, did you burn it as an image, or just copy the file? If you didn't burn it as an image, it won't boot. |

Sorry for the delayed response - I've been driving miles & miles on vacation...
cwr,
I think the only CD I've booted to is Knoppix, but wasn't sure about following the steps for booting from a non-Gentoo CD, looks like that's the route I need to go however. I had a CD with Parted on it which I could boot & run in memory for my old P3 but can't seem to locate that CD now (had planned to get organized during vacation, haha)
Section_8,
Pretty sure I burned them as image files, but good to double check, thanks.
DONAHUE,
Thanks for the links - I'll check them out & let you all know the results. |

I went the route DONAHUE suggested & created a new bootable USB drive with the link he/she provided. I'm currently repartitioning in GParted & plan to leave the first half of my disk as Vista (not part of the original plan, but heck, I can use this laptop for a class I'm taking & one I'm teaching) & dual boot w/Gentoo... which is the next hurdle... |
