I tried to emerge icedtea on a fresh installed Gentoo KVM guest. It failed to compile package dev-java/ecj-gcj-3.6-r1

I solved the problem. I tried to save diskspace and mount /var/tmp/portage as an nfs share into my kvm guest. I created a new disk and mount it in the kvm guest, everything is fine now.
Portage on nfs is not a good idea. |

worked ok for me when I used it as binhost.
