I'm recovering from a bout with trying to boot with systemd. I've read that pulseaudio needs consolekit although I just emerged it with no consolekit installed, and the emerge did not complain. I tried emerging console kit but that is blocked by systemd, and I don't really want to undo all the work I've just done to get things working again. This is what I'm seeing in /var/log/messages

after running start-pulseaudio-x11. So how to resolve the consolekit/systemd issue? Thanks,
Fred

IIRC, it's handle this way: systemd replaces consolekit functionality with its own, furthermore in Gentoo udev-acl binary and its udev rules (consolekit[acl]) would interfere with systemd rules for the similar target.

However, if your display manager doesn't support consolekit natively, X session needs to be tweaked...but you probably already know that.

As for pulseaudio, its consolekit plugin has code in place to let it be ignored while systemd is running and it also has a systemd useflag (AFAIK it should work out of the box).
If that doesn't help, you could also theak the config file not to load consolekit plugin at all.

Thanks -- I just commented out lines connected with console-kit in /etc/pulse/default.pa and all works.
