As an old DOS user, I find it easier to remember and issue commands like md instead of whatever the Linux equivalent is. I have created a few lines in my .bash_profile file to make Gentoo a little "DOS user friendly". What interesting MS-DOS shortcuts have you created?

Here are the few I have from my .bash_profile:
Code:
alias cd..='cd ..'   # DOS didn't always require spaces
alias md='mkdir'
alias trsh='mv --target-directory=$HOME/.Trash'

Heh. I created Unix shortcuts for my MS-DOS. But then I used Unix System V.3 before DOS existed. :P

I figured there'd be a few like you. But I wonder what on earth makes you go from Unix/Linux to DOS? Why would you go backwards?

alias cls='clear'

The other way around, sometimes I do 'ls' in dosbox, then go "huh?? oh, right..." :)

I worked with System V.4 in the Nineties. I haven't been at a DOS prompt for about ten years, but I do remember that in order to do anything useful on a new Windows installation, I had to download unxutils. Then I needed ActiveState Perl, and then a decent editor, and then a lot of other things... until finally I realised that it would be far easier to just install Linux and get a working environment in one go.
