Hi again :)

I have been giving qtcreator a chance for some months now.

I am getting the hang of its, mostly. But I have problems with utf8. My system is utf-8 aware. Everything seems to work with utf8 so far: editors, browsers, etc.

I can type accents and stuff in the qtcreator editor and they display fine. The problem comes when I hit control+r to run the thing. Then all the accented characters go wrong. If I select the latin-15 enconding and re-save the offending cpp file then, after recompiling, they display fine in the program, but I'd really like to use utf8 from the beginning in some projects, because it's cross-OS stuff, intended to be run in linux and many windows versions (note that I know nothing about Windows since more than a decade ago, so utf8 could very well be the wrong path anyway).

So, has anyone around any experience with utf8 in qtcreator? Does it "just work" for you?

Thanks for any input :)

Once your project is opened :
- Leftmost handside "Projects" tab
- Topmost "Editor" tab

What does "Editors Settings" tell ? (Global/Custom)
If on "Global", What does the "File Encodings" form tell ?

If global is selected, all is greyed out and I can see it's set to utf8/keep if already present.

If I select "custom" I see the same, though it's not greyed out, and I can edit the options.

I have no idea what the BOM is, so I have no idea either if "keep if already present" is a suitable value for my case. I'll explore that, I guess.

As said, I can see and edit utf fine in the editor. It's the compiled program which fails to display the stuff.

I am not using any of the uber DEs, just openbox. But everything else works just fine...
