Hello everyone :D i've just recently finished my install of gentoo on my eee 1000HE Asus, including configuring wireless and eth0 internet access. I'm currently using command line still and I have a question to installing KDE. I've already set my eselect profile to KDE. Do i just follow this to guide exactly

http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/KDE

For the following that i need to emerge. The USE flags that are listed under Software (i.e., Consolekit) do i need to also list those; acl, pam, policykit?
Quote:
ConsoleKit: Enables the ConsoleKit framework for defining and tracking users, login sessions and seats.
D-Bus: Enables use of the D-Bus message bus system.
polkit: Enables the polkit framework for controlling privileges for system-wide services.
udev: Enables support for udev Linux dynamic and persistent device naming.
udisks: Enables support for some storage related services.

finally if when i finish emerging these and setting the USE flags and rc-update i have my USE flags set to the following, can you let me know if i'm doing this right? Thank you!

Quote:
USE="-gtk -gnome qt4 kde X aac acl aalib alsa crypt consolekit -cups dbus firmware-loader gptfdisk gudev hwdb keymap ios ipod introspection -java javascript jpeg mozilla mp3 nls openrc pam pdf policykit quicktime udev udisks wifi"

Hi Tman11,
By setting your profile to kde and with the useflags in your make.conf you should be ok.
You haven't said anything about X.
I have no idea what video hardware you have but pls consult this http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml.
Without X no kde.
Once you're set to emerge kde I'd suggest "kdebase-meta".
Gerard.

when i emerge xorg-server, i get the following.

*view'd by using /var/log/portage/elog/summary.log*
I also used genkernel all to config my kernel.

Code:
WARN: postinst
virtual/udev was built without keymap support. This may cause input device autoconfiguration to fail.

Warn: postinst
This driver requires KMS support in your kernel
 Device Drivers--->
   Graphics support--->
      Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)--->
        <*>   Intel 830M, 845G, 852GM, 855GM, 865G (i915 driver) --->
                i915 driver
        [*]     Enable modesetting on intel by default

WARN: postinst
virtual/udev was built without keymap support. This may cause input device autoconfiguration to fail.

though when the guide tells me to <Y> Include the following before emerging xorg-server (i have an i915 video driver)

Code:
/dev/agpgart (AGP Support) --->
    <*>  Intel 440LX/BX/GX, I8xx and E7x05 chipset support

the following message appears "The feature depends on another which has been configured as a module. As a result, this feature will be built as a module."

Oh one last thing when i go back in to the kernel configuration and find the location of Direct Rendering Manager all it tells me is the following
Code:
--- Direct Rendering Manager (XFree86 4.1.0 and higher DRI support)
 [ ] Allow to specify an EDID data set instead of probing for it

I'm kind of at a stand point and searching the forums to figure this out. Thanks

I suggest you start a new thread for this since it's not kde related.
I've never used Intel graphics,so others will know more about how to fix this.

Did you follow the Gentoo handbook while installing?

Gerard.
