my wireless card is finally working.

Now for the automation problem. NetworkManager will emerge, but not show in Gnome. Am I supposed to add it to the default runlevel? Or do I need to add some sort of script so that gnome will show it in the tray?

Also of note, if it is installed, wpa_supplicant will refuse to connect. NetworkManager seems to run already, even without being added to a runlevel. is removing the conf file for wpa_supplicant recommended?

If you previosly installed wicd or gentoo style networking purge all traces
Follow http://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/NetworkManager

To your questions:
Code:
emerge -s nm-applet
if not installed, install it
Code:
rc-update add NetworkManager default

Running nm-applet should overwite wpa_supplicant.conf
If you have wpa_supplicant or dhcpcd or dhclient in a run level, remove them

Okay, that was extremely easy... didn't know there was a wiki on getting networkmanager to work.
